I saw DLR right after the split up. I always wanted them to get back together. The man put on a good show. Yeh, he was a ham, but the girls went wild and that was the whole thing back then...the Rock God.
I liked Haggar on his own, but never, Van Haggar.
Don't like keyboards in my metal. Stopped listening to them altogether.
The one thing that pisses me off about Eddie, which demonstrates what an asshole he's always been, is his whining about Roth never wanting them to be a hard rock band. Really? Did Eddie forget Van Halen's first three albums? There's no way Roth would have sung Love Comes Walking In or Why Can't This Be Love?. Van Halen with Sammy Hagar turned into an MTV-friendly pop combo. But they rocked like the devil with Dave.
I have seen both versions of the band in concert. the early days with Roth touring for the VH II CD and then later with Sammy during OU812. I think in the concert settin Sammy is the showman and not the clown that DLR is.
I dont know if the band was more successful during the DLR days or Sammy. But the band did change their music and i dont think it was because of DLR or Sammy - more like Eddie wanting to add more keyboards to his songs - not sure. Hell I will just call Valerie - i am sure she runs the show. But i do believe that VH had more songs in the top 10 and 20 during the Sammy days. Can anyone Confirm or Deny. Thanks
DLR....Clown rock is the perfect adj for him...sure he was entertaining but then so are circus clowns......if you want some serious rock....Sammy does the job....if you want a Sammy clone....you want gary cherone
