Is anything not "ART"?

I am reading a book called Why Are Artists Poor?: The Exceptional Economy of the Arts, and it is about defining what art is, what is high or low, what is an artist, and why do artist's choose a "poor" lifestyle. Some may be rich, but the author talks about artists who struggle in the "real art" world, and who have to take second jobs and rely on subsidies from different places to survive....

I am wondering what other people think art is, or rather what is not art. I have never experienced anything that was not art, and I am confused why there is a discussion. But, I really want to know where and how people draw the line between art and non-art. I know that I have written and said, and try to catch myself whenever I can, things that reflect a bias towards one thing being art and another being, something else, almost always lower. Nothing is high or low, just boring or exciting.
