ANT-BEE NeuZzzzz!
March 12, 2011

**************The new ANT-BEE album Electronic Church Muzik was released on February 28, 2011 on Barking Moondog Records. It was completed sometime in the summer of 2009 (i forget the date i received the album from ANT-BEE). The album features guest appearances by Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth (GONG), Peter Banks (YES), Jan Akkerman (Focus), Michael Bruce (Alice Cooper) ex-Mothers of Invention members (Zappa), ex-Captain Beefheart's Magic Band members, ex-Utopia (Rundgren), Napoleon Murphy Brock (Zappa/George Duke) and others. I got my copy last week, but i have been too busy to listen to it again and to give it a solid review. If you liked his other albums, and not just Pure Electric Honey, then you cannot go wrong with this album...more to come....
I have not listened to it in a while, but if you are an ANT-BEE fan, it is worth picking up, but it is not Pure Electric Honey or Lunar Muzik. It has its own feel--less Zappa/Beatles/Beach Boys than before, but still classic ANT-BEE aesthetic.

I just recently visited their website and was shocked to discover that Ant-Bee was actually a 60's band. Ironic how Scaruffi's website favors recording dates over release dates but lists Pure Electric Honey as a 90’s record. Despite the album not being released in the 60's, Ant-Bee’s music did achieve some significance durring thier time, that is, unless I read this article wrong. Would it not be fair to say Pure Electric Honey was largely a 60's album even though it wasn't released until 1990? what do you think?
UPDATE:
I've just read a biography about Ant-Bee on Allmusic guide, saying that they actually were an underground band from the 90's, but were emulating music from the 60's. Apparently, the other article I was reading was a joke. Looks like they got me real good there!
I fell for that fake bio on Ant-Bee's site when i first read it. Ant-Bee is not really a band in the sense of the average band like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, or The Doors who had a stable membership. Ant-Bee is just Billy James who has found other performers to perform on his recordings and in public. Now he is less into composing music and focuses his time on publicity for other bands, and occasional books about artists he enjoyed growing up, in particular Frank Zappa and Todd Rundgren. And he also has two internet radio shows; the links can be found on his website.
