  7. Lou Reed: Take No Prisoners (1978) – this is a must for Lou Reed fanatics, as the rambling throughout is enough for the purchase of the album. WARNING: there is not much singing on this; the 16 minute “Walk On The Wild Side” is Reed rambling about how he came to write the song and other spots of the album have him talking shit about the press’s stance on Springsteen at the time, how he came to quit Rock music and other stuff he felt like talking about.
  8. Built To Spill: Live (2000)
  9. Bob Dylan: Bootleg Series, Vol. 5: Rolling Thunder Revue (1975) – there is a fucking amazing version of “Isis” on this live album, and the video is on youtube from Dylan’s Renaldo & Clara

there are many to come. recommendations would we nice for this list since i pay little attention to live albums - they are often recorded poorly.

Be sure to check out Neil Young's fantastic archives release "Crazy Horse at the Fillmore 1970". Every song gets even better treatment than the studio version, and it contains arguably the definitive versions of Down by The River and Cowgirl in the Sand. Cowgirl goes places you would never think possible: I'm talking expressions of unbelievable anguish and sorrow.

Glad to see you dug the Neil Young shows! Are the ones beyond 1970 in the new archives? Haven't heard those yet.

i don't know. i know nothing about new or old archives, sorry.

the album was pretty good - i am not as much of a Neil Young fan as i thought.

Oh well. Have you ever heard On the Beach? That's my favorite of his.

i have it, i will listen to it sometime tomorrow and update some of my pages here.

meh, it was ok. i am not a big fan of Neil Young as an album artist; i prefer single tracks of his.
Sugar Mountain (Decade - i am not sure where else this track appears), Cowgirl in the Sand, The Loner, Down By The River, Cinnamon Girl, After The Goldrush, Old Man, Needle...Damage Done, Borrowed Tune, Tired Eyes. and i love like these tracks a lot.

Don't force yourself! For some reason, I really relate to Neil Young's music so I'm bound to overrate his stuff. Count me among many who have been influenced by his style of guitar playing. I especially love See the Sky About to Rain and Ambulance Blues off that album (the latter song in particular, I'd put on my greatest songs ever list). The title track also kills me. All the songs you listed I love too.

i will not force myself, i am tired of that. i am a Dylan, Doors, Ubu, Coltrane man, and it will probably never change, and i will probably always overrate those artists, and any other that i put in that category. the problem is that i thought i was a Neil Young fan, and apparently i am not...more Doors, MOOR DOORS!

You know you're a Neil Young fan when "Barstool Blues" becomes your religious hymn.

Have fun with Doors!

Bob Dylan & the Band's Before the Flood would clinch the top spot for me (although Vol. 4 is a great one). I think Live at the Apollo deserves a push to the actual list... and B.B. King's Live at the Regal is missing. Nice seeing Live/Dead so near the top.

i am a HUGE Dylan fan, so Before The Flood was nice to listen to, but i prefer the psychotic breakdown that he seems to be going through on the first disc of "The Royal Albert Hall" concert, and the anguish of the Rolling Thunder Revue amid his divorce (though Before The Flood is just that, before the flood of that anguish/divorce); thanks for the reminder of that album.

Apollo and Regal i sold off awhile ago and will have to track those down again...and Live/Dead is good and is the only album of The Dead that i can get through with enjoyment, but my favorite song by them is "He's Gone" off of Europe '72, another album that will go on here, but probably very low if i remember correctly.

As a fan of Nick Cave, I highly suggest you get the Live Seeds album. It has a fucking amazing version of From Her To Eternity.

i have it, forgot about it, and will check it out, thanks.

Ummagumma - Pink Floyd (the live disc) is rather excellent, if you're a pink floyd fan anyhow

i love the studio disc of Ummagumma, but have always been annoyed by the live disc. it has inferior versions of "Saucerful of secrets" and "Astronomy Domine", "Set The Controls To The Heart Of The Sun" is no different than the studio version and i do not care much for the studio version which leaves "Careful With That Axe Eugene", which is one of the greatest tracks of all time. the other three out weigh my love for "Eugene" and none are originals so i omit that album from any ranking, unfairly i am sure.

I like Wright's keyboard solo to Astronomy quite a bit on the live album.
