  7. Almost everything arises from the Bible. Literary tropes, allusions, and various other techniques all come from the Bible.

  9. One may ask "Why have I ranked this at #4?" Certainly there are *better* works in literature. BUT, The Great Gatsby is perhaps the most read book in American high schools. To put it simply, everyone is exposed to it.
  10. The Divine Comedy - Dante
  11. Another Journey narrative, the Divine Comedy depicts humankind at its lowest, most savage state, and highest, most _divine state. This work is Italy's finest work.
