Bold = Rewatch

Summer break = back on my film grind.

may i offer you some of my thoughts on garden state?

I saw it back in 2004 and was fully expecting to love it, i love quirky films and big fan of scrubs. However though i do like it (and like it more everytime i see it) there are factors i really don't care for. I find the character of sam, on the whole, annoying. The way they had her character trait of lying, it was like the film was saying "hey look , she lies , she's well cool and unpredictable" forcing what they saw as a quirky character to the audience. The second and biggest problem i have with it, is simple. I don't find Zach Braff's character likable. now that might be the point, but even if the character is meant to be a jerk, i think as a viewer you have to like him. Bill Murray has played jerks his whole career but i've liked nearly all his characters. I just found Braff's character too closed off and arrogant.

As i say i like it more each time i see it but those are my main and really only issues with it. it has a killer soundtrack and Peter Sarsgaard was fantastic. Just a few opinions, i really like your film lists as we do agree on a lot (burn after reading, son of rambow, No Country For Old Men) ect. ect.

I can respect that. I can understand how Sam could be annoying but I am truly in love with Natalie Portman, and I found the lying thing kind of awkward and cute.
I agree with you on Zach Braff's character in the fact that he is a jerk but I still like him and end up routing for him in the end.
Like I said in my comments though, I just relate to this film completely.

Thats cool, as i say those issues are becomming less and less of one each time i see it. Also on reflection i guess the sam character doesn't do the lying thing very often and i can speak talking about forcing "quirky" characters, hell i like wes anderson movies ! :D

thx for the response mate

Frost/Nixon sure was a compelling and brilliantly made movie, so glad yo enjoyed it

I agree 100%, the only reason I didn't give it higher was, for me, I like to have some sort of lasting emotional effect. However, from and entertainment and technical standpoint Frost/Nixon was absolutely top class.
