I always wonder if these promotions mean there's some new "special edition" on the horizon (esp. in regard to Reservoir Dogs). Probably not in the case of Requiem, though, as I'm pretty sure that's already a fairly full-featured disc.
Another thing to keep in mind is who is doing the price cutting. Is it the studio who is dropping the suggested retail price and in turn the retail outlets are dropping theirs accordingly? This seems to be the case with Requiem and Reservoir Dogs.
Or is a retail outlet just looking to blow out whatever stock they have on something even if it's at a loss? From what I can tell this is what's happening with The Blair Witch Project.
I keep pretty close tabs on what's over the DVD horizon and I haven't heard anything about a Reservoir Dogs SE. I think Artisan has just dropped the price to $9.99 SRP and Deep Discount DVD has knocked even more off.
I come across a lot of good DVD deals but these are the only movies that I think are any decent.
When you get Reservoir Dogs for $9, does it matter if an SE edition comes out in the future? I mean, if it does, get that one (for $20+) and give your old one as a gift to someone.
Unfortunately, most everybody I know is too squeamish to want Reservoir Dogs on DVD.
How 'bout this one? Also thought I'd mention that I recently did some Christmas shopping on DeepDiscountDVD and loved it. Low prices and very speedy shipping. Thanks!
Aren't they great!? I'm wondering what their margin is on their DVD sales. Like 5 cents?
It can't be much. They have some titles that are priced similarly to Amazon, but most are less, some significantly so.
I bought the Reservoir Dogs DVD from Deep Discount DVD and it has an insert which says...
Reservoir Dogs
Ten Years
Special Edition DVD
Coming July 2002
So were you thrilled (that it's coming) or crushed (that you bought a soon-to-be-inferior copy) when you read that? :-)
I was happy to get the DVD for $8. I probably wouldn't buy a special edition for Reservoir Dogs unless it had really, really cool stuff or I suddenly come into a lot of money.
I just gotta say THANKS for the gouge on Deep Discount.com. I had not heard of them before, and upon your recommendation I took a peek ($5.20 for a Steve Martin DVD? Get real!)
I go to Hong Kong a bit, so I get tons of DVDs over there, but most are classics, kids movies (like Disney or old 'toons), or less popular titles (all legit. The first run DVDs are knock offs, and poorly done). I buy a TON of DVDs (I have over 400) and this'll make it easier than buying them all used off of Half.com (another place I HIGHLY recommend for books and DVDs).
Thanks for the tip!
