These are movies which I've read about would like to see. In many cases I don't think they have much chance of getting released on DVD in the U.S. in the near future. Of course I'll give it awhile before finally caving in and buying on non-domesetic DVD unless I find out the domestic DVD is going to be drastically altered.

Ideas For This List: Kung Fu Cinema - Editors Top 50 [kungfucinema.com], Nicheflix, Twitch
Places to Buy Them : DDDHouse, edaymovie.com, eThaiCD.com, HKFlix.com, YesAsia.com

Froogle helps out a lot if you're trying to figure out whether a DVD/VCD/VHS exists for a title in any sort of format.

You posted today - I saw your post today - and today my son asked me to buy him a plug-in for his DVD player which enables universal region playback (I think it was about £15).

I shall get some more details and post again.

Hey, Prof! I haven't heard of a specific plug-in for DVD players but I've seen quite a few "universal" DVD players on Ben's Bargains lately so I'll probably end up getting one of those. I already have 3 DVD players so another one, since price's have come down so much, can't hurt.

Most likely what will happen is a movie will come out which I will desperately want to see and with no U.S. DVD release in sight and no Region-Free DVD available I'll probably end buying a new DVD player which supports everything. Until then I'm just content to note those which I'd like to see and I know aren't available in the U.S.

You've probably seen this already, but your DVD player's region-encoding might be hackable without additional hardware. That's not the only hack site out there, but it's the one Google lists first. Happily dgeiser13 pointed me to an all-regions version of Hero, otherwise I would have tried the hack for my player, which is just a special sequence of remote control buttons (in theory).

There is just one film I have seen of these: Taxi, and I canNOT recommend it. Stupid and boring (but at least better than the two sequels!). Be aware!

I saw Festen (the only one of the Dogma 95 films I have seen) a couple of years ago at a university. I found it kind of harrowing to sit through, but worth it.

Cool. I've heard good things about it. You might enjoy Italiensk for Begyndere (2000) (aka Italian for Beginners) another Dogme95 film.

Of those i would recommend Central do Brasil, Raise the Red Lantern, Babette's Feast, Dogville, Festen, L'Appartement, Lovers of the Arctic Cuircle, Fucking Amal. But do see more older classics cos few film-makers today are up to the standard of true greats like Mizoguchi.

Nuovo Cinema Paradiso is a wonderful, wonderful, WONDER-ful film. Let me know what you think about it as soon as you have seen it, ok?

From Indian Cinema : Black . It's been making waves all over. The story has been inspired by the life of Helen Keller. Amazing motion picture. Do check it out. It's fantastic. Here's a review :)
