Author Comments:
These are movies that I own in some capacity that, for reasons unknown, I have not yet watched. Lucky me.

So many movies... so many comments...
Just a few quick ones for now:
The Bank Dick: I'm interested to hear about it after you see it. I consider myself to have a pretty good sense of humor; I can find a lot of things funny. But this movie... it was like it came at me from some perpendicular angle. I didn't laugh once. Not once. And it's not Fields, either, cuz I remember laughing through It's A Gift. I need to see it again.
How I Won The War: I got turned on to Lester via Soderbergh's book, but it didn't really prepare me for this. Very, very strange, but also funny. More like avant-garde theater than film. It's like once Lester understood the story, he felt completely free to stip away any reality and replace it with any surreal, absurd or expressionistic idea that crossed his mind. I guess that's also a warning, in a way ;-)
Just saw "Bank Dick"... while I agree that its reputation is inflated, I still found it fitfully funny. But it's definitely not the out-and-out laugh riot that most people seem to think.
I'm with you. "Bank Dick" is funny, but I think I prefer "It's a Gift!" or "You Can't Cheat an Honest Man." Have you seen any other W.C. Fields movies?
Only "Never Give a Sucker an Even Break" about seven years ago. I remember liking it quite a bit.
Wow. You haven't seen CLOSE ENCOUNTERS?
Nope. And I've owned it for close to four years now. I am lame.
man, Bottle Rocket is great, i reallly recommend you watch it.
Buttcrack?
It's a Troma movie. I got it as part of one of their 3-movie DVDs that I bought mainly for "Unspeakable". Plus, it was like ten bucks. I don't care how bad they are -- three movies for ten bucks is a bargain.
Hey buddy, Torrente sucks, is a Hollywood action comedy wannabe.
Shh! Don't say that!
And I like Santiago Segura so much... *pout*
Santiago Segura is positively awesome in Day OF the Beast, but is horrible in the other films i've seen of his.
You should really watch some of these films.
E.g.:
- Blue Velvet (I have recently seen it: a great film you won't forget so easily)
- Close Encounters of the Third Kind (just because it's a classic)
- Quiz Show (better than one might expect)
- The Graduate (WATCH THIS. It is a pure masterpiece. Trust me!)
Well, I've already promised someone else that I'd watch "Blue Velvet" and "Close Encounters" before I see "Never Die Alone", so those two are covered. The other two are still boxed up from my last move, so Lord knows when I'll actually get to them. (And I've seen about twenty minutes of "The Graduate". I like what I've seen so far.)
The World according to Garp is simply awful
I bought it several years ago used for four bucks, before I discovered my distaste for John Irving. Now it just kind of sits around and I look at it and think, 'Guess I'll hafta watch it someday...'
I know you hate Wes Anderson, but i really think you should sit down and watch Bottle Rocket if you get a chance. its far less contrived and cornered than the the others, its easier to watch and just feels like a normal comedy, not a Wes anderson comedy. well, just thought i'd say because i know you hated Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums for being contrived and heartless but if you watch Bottle Rocket, you'll find its a different kettle of fish. (unless you don't, then feel free to come back here and shout at me:)
Stolen Kisses is great; it was that film that made me start to appreciate Truffaut, even though I'd seen several of his most famous films before. Not his best, but one of the most enjoyable, and Léaud is marvellous.
Also, how did you acquire a copy of El Topo?
From this guy.
Thanks; I've wanted to see that film for a while, though I'll probably wait a year or so until trying to buy or trade it
This list is going to go berserk over the next few months -- I just got DVR service from my cable company. Life? What life?
fistful of dynamite... the long goodbye... duel... key largo... watch as soon as possible, 4 of the best ever made... as if my opinion on the subject actually matters.
Will do, man. (Maybe that's what I need to do to cut this thing down -- start taking suggestions...)
The Thin Man! On the other side of the coin, I don't recall Moscow on the Hudson being anything worth seeking out, but it has been a long time.
honestly if I had this collection as a backlog I don't think i'd do much but eat, sleep, and watch movies for about a month.. I mean my backlog of films I own but haven't watched is limited to rocky III and conan the destroyer.
I've given up documenting my backlog, as I seem to acquire twenty movies or more every week.
There's a lot on your list that you need to see now, starting alphabetically with "Bonnie and Clyde"!
I know... but there's other that I literally need to see first. Like "Rude Boy." I'm actually expected to review that. Yippie. :-P
You have to see El Topo, just saw it today, i need your opinion, its fascinating.
Awesome that you were able to get the Bresson. Sorry I let you down there. :-(
(also, this is a REALLY MASSIVE list ... you feeling any sick days coming on?)
Cost me twenty bucks off half.com, but I have a feeling it was so worth it.
(And don't feel bad... the real let down is from the entire Westchester library system, who let me keep a hold on it for a month before removing it from their online catalogue without telling me.)
And I work retail. Sick days? I know of no such thing. :-)
What'd you think of Zazie? I think it was pretty amazing myself -- a bizarre and harrowing film masquerading as a light and silly one.
