I haven't tackled Ulysses yet (mostly due to a bad run-in with A
Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man in high school). I have, however, read
5 of the 10 books on this list and enjoyed them all.
This isn't really a suggestion for your list, just a passing comment. Another piece of music that suggests sex to me every time I hear it is an instrumental piece called TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS. I hear it whenever I watch the movie Dr Strangelove: it's the song being played right at the beginning of the movie when the two planes, bomber and fuel tanker, are copulating. Hmm...maybe I should mention this to my therapist.
Does "acceptable" mean "adequate"? At least half these directors are exceptional, I'd venture. Or are they really just average when you consider the full international field?
Non-responsiveness is a familiar gripe of somebody I know . . . Hmmm . . . Who could this "anonymous" poster be? Could it be Mr. Wells? :-)
Anyway, whoever you are, interesting suggestion! I'm not sure if I'd want to set up a separate user directory for responsive folks for two reasons:
It is hard to programmatically determine when a post is either directed at the list author, or requires a response. Perhaps someone hasn't responded because all the comments on their lists are statements rather than questions.
I think it would be confusing in general to have two user directories.
But how 'bout this . . . I will look into creating some kind of "gold star" icon that will go next to "active" names in the user directory. So if you've posted a comment or added/modified a list in the last month (for example), you get a gold star. Heck, maybe I really will use a gold star! We can set up some kind Sneech heirarchy.
If possible, I will implement something like this for the forthcoming version (which I plan on releasing at the end of the month at the latest).
. . . I would also like to add the ability to see the post you are replying to on the "comment" screen. This should make it in to. If not this release, then the next one.
You probably won't buy this, but how about having two List Author Directories: one for responsive authors and one for non-responsive authors. A non-responsive author would be defined as someone who hasn't answered any comments on any of his/her lists for, say, six weeks. This might have the effect of giving authors an incentive to be responsive - not wanting to be placed in the ignominious Non-Responsive Authors Directory. Of course, an author wouldn't get chucked into the NRAD just because no one has commented on his/her lists, but only because of failure to answer comments within a reasonable time.
Jim, I have already claimed elsewhere that THE TERMINATOR was based on Ellison's teleplay "Demon With A Glass Hand", but it looks like we're both right.
My two B&W favorites are ARSENIC & OLD LACE and A NIGHT AT THE OPERA. I bought both on tape some years ago and drag them out every few years to rediscover them. Since you only classfied the movies as B&W and comedies, would Mel Brooks' YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN make your list?
Yours might be the only list that I have seen all of the movies. I'm not sure if that means I am a classic film buff, or that I am old. Either way great list!
Although these may not be the type of dance scenes everyone else has mentioned, there are several outstanding "tap" scenes in "THE COTTON CLUB". The movie itself might qualify as a guilty pleasure, but the Gregory Hines dance scenes are first rate.
PP was KV's first, written when he still wasn't sure he wasn't a science fiction writer. When he became sure he wasn't a sf writer, he got into his stride and became legitimate/famous - as distinct from sf/famous.
I'm putting both Bolero And Crash on the list right away. Any further suggestions are welcome.
THANK YOU!!! I have no idea why I didn't think of Bolero...
please tell me you were getting lucky while listening to venga boys... cos that's the only excuse for having an orgasm i'll except..:))
I couldn't agree with you more! Seems you've been readin my mail... :))
Sorry ... but what about the melodic Randy Rhoads, eh ?!? He's gotta be here !

Dear Jim,
Very well. I suppose that's better than nothing. Thanks for your response.
Yours sincerely, H.G.Wells
Congrats! You're the first Listology contributor to outright enjoy Ulysses!
How 'bout Dances With Wolves, Godfather, or Godfather II?
Yeah, Snipes sure has made some bad decisions. But you've overlooked some good ones (IMO):
As for the rest, I liked Deep Blue Sea! But Jackson has certainly seen better days, I must admit.

BTW, adding a checkbox so that you can stay logged in indefinitely is on the list, and I plan on including it.

Sorry about the lateness of my reply . . . I usually use this site to look up acronyms that I don't know.

I too, don't see what makes FARGO such a favorite. I agree the dialogue and whacked out personalities are fun, but they got old to me very quickly.
I'm curious about this as well. I don't come across many folks that hate him, and even those that do still like A Prayer for Owen Meany.
Out of curiosity, what's your problem with John Irving? I've personally enjoyed almost everything of his I've read.
