Hey, Revolution 1 is also quite good, though I do agree the single version is better.
I think if I ever made a top 100 Beatles songs list, at least a quarter of it would be from the self-titled (at least 25 songs out of the 30 on the album).
Flying is a decent psychedelic track, and I haven't heard the Dig It jam though I'd like to because it sounds quite interesting actually.
Neither do I actually. I just found it slightly more challenging than the most challenging parts of TMR (for some reason TMR is a breeze for me mostly). Stuff like OK Computer is much more challenging oddly.
Interesting description. Also I was expecting at least a 7.0 rating but I guess you're right that the rating could change on further listens. I hope to see more mentions of Cryptooology on this page in the coming weeks.
While I didn't find it challenging, a lot of people not versed in experimental rock and jazz probably would. They're extremely talented (understatement). Sounds like The Minutemen playing 21st Century Schizoid Man... or something like that :)
I'll be going through Rock for some time to fill out the 8's and iron out the order from 7.8 - 8.7. I'd like to move into the Jazz 7.8-8.7's (including some more 9's that probably exist), but many of them are a lot harder to find than the rock ones, so I don't know. I tend to do classical in spurts concurrently to rock and/or jazz so I'll probably do that. Not sure when I'll do paintings (again) and sculptures (for the first time). I have no idea about literature but maybe I'll tackle it. It's easily the most time consuming of all these. Film takes long enough. Maybe I'll stick with poetry only.
Hey, I was wondering if you had a master-plan up your sleeve. You spent a tremendous amount of effort staking out films and judging by the comprehensiveness of your Greatest Films - Extended List, it looks like you substantially completed that task. And now you've moved onto rock albums. What can we expect in the future? Do you have aspirations to thoroughly explore other areas of art such as classical music, painting, sculpture & literature?
Haha, of course not. I've listened to Rock Bottom probably 400-500 times, A Love Supreme probably 250+, The Doors probably 300+, and Violent Femmes now 2 times, so this week I like it more -- not in a general sense -- just that I'm more excited about it right now; it's a virtually new experience to me. But usually (probably 9 out of 10 times) I'd prefer those other 3. And without a question, Violent Femmes wouldn't have stood a chance at #1 for the week when I first really 'got' The Doors, Rock Bottom, A Love Supreme, or any music work above an 8/10.
All this "Top 10 of the Week" list ever represents are my favorites for that week, which can be differently ordered than my overall favorites (as in my "best of all time/decades" lists), due to circumstances such as detailed above.
he cool list, youve got some favs of mine in there, but i see you have lost faith in todays Trance!!!!!! theres some awesome tracks out right now, you just have to troll through the shit to get to those gems, check out sy gardner distant memories for example, other artists like A&Z,angel ace,etc etc.. all produce good tracks, like anything you have to move with the times!!!!
Update #11 (25 March) - Changes in the top 10: robear61 (7->6), kaplan (6->7), Ultimo Lee (9->8) & julesyoung (7->9). Ultimo Lee joined the group players with an average of more than 1 film/day, they're nine now, mightysparks being the only one who has an average of more than 2 films/day.
I saw seven films and I'm 7th now.
Haha! Nowhere near! I'm currently working my way through the latest edition of They Shoot Pictures Don't They: seen 925 out of 1016. Also working on Rosenbaum's Essential Cinema: seen 652 out of 1080. There's a lot of beautiful movies out there, so you'd better start watching quick! ;)
Nice, thanks, I'll see what I think of those. Keep in mind that I'm not the biggest Beatles fan (I like them though), so I hope you're not offended if I don't end up thinking those are the greatest :)

Flying is on MMT, you probably just don't remember it.
no no no, better you buy a life!.

Hope to see it up again soon :)
Guess I'll have to check that out

Lol! Who's this "Scaruffi" you mention?
Ah, I see. And all this time I thought you purposely made your lists inconsistent as an attempt to be like Scaruffi! Glad you cleared that up.

"1. Violent Femmes-Violent Femmes (1983) [MUSIC]
2. Rock Bottom-Robert Wyatt (1974) [MUSIC]
3. A Love Supreme-John Coltrane (1964) [MUSIC]
4. The Doors-The Doors (1967) [MUSIC]"
Do you really rank Violent Femmes as being greater than the three masterpieces listed below it?

I thought it did.

Haven't you just about covered every movie ever made? I guess I better start watching then. :)
How about:
Make like a tree and leave?
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
Good list.

Yea, I've noticed that too. The River is a very well executed concept album.
Thanks :) I'll be re-listening soon
