I'm glad you liked The Savages!

I think he hated it, he gives a lot of A+ so a B its like a C-.

You would be wrong, sir. ;-)

my thoughts on watchmen

Very good in terms of taking complete pannels from the book and putting them on screen. performances were all top notch. i was also never thinking "oh they missed that bit" they included everything that made it flow as a piece of movie entertainment. i felt it was missing the impact and messages of the book (even simple themes such as why they where masks or the impact of Dr Man on people's perception of rrealirt) and also thought the fight scenes were over the top (and what was up with that sex scene with dan and laurie with that music, bit over dramatic)

I liked how the fight scenes were hyper-stylized, though both my mom and one of my friends came away asking, "Why were they so strong if Dr. Manhattan was the only one with superpowers?" I thought the sex scene was kind of beautiful--I'm a huge fan of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," though I'm far more familiar with the Rufus Wainwright and Jeff Buckley versions--though I will admit that at the end it got a bit too much with the flames and whatnot.

And yeah, it definitely does not have the impact of the book, but then again, I was expecting it to suck really hard, so I never thought that it would. The first time I saw it, my biggest complaint (aside from Carla Gugino, who just is not very good as Sally Jupiter) was that it was too long and adapted individual issues too closely. Like, what worked in episodic form in the book didn't flow seamlessly in the movie. I'm referring specifically to the lengthy Comedian funeral and Dr. Manhattan bio sequences. Like, they were structurally perfect in the book, but felt half-baked stuck in the middle of a movie.

However, I think that was just because of the level of familiarity I have with the book, because the second time, it all seemed to hang together a lot better, and not for a second I was like, "Jeez, this is going on forever, where's my watch?" The reason I thought that the first time was probably because I went to a midnight showing and it wasn't over until 3 A.M....

But overall, I thought it was an excellent movie, and the first Zack Snyder movie I've liked.

Accurate Body of Lies rating.

oh only B- for shattered glass, my second fave movie of all time, oh well at least more people are seeing it

Sorry. :-(

I just thought Hayden Christensen crumbled under the weight of the material, and was vastly outperformed by Peter Sarsgaard, Chloe Sevigny, Hank Azaria, etc.

though i agree Peter Sarsgaard was better than Hayden, i did enjoy Hayden's performance. my fave scenes include when Chuck took Glass to the place his story was meant to of taken place, the conference call scene and the arguement between chuck and Caitlin. Hank Azaria was great in his role, shame it was fairly small role. oh well can't win them all, glad you enjoyed the film, if not Hayden's performance.
