Music Adventures!
Inspired by Elston, I thought I would leave some of my more adventurous compositions here. Enjoy!
NEW! "The Om" - something weird for Halloween. Like a cross between Amon Duul 2 and Residents? http://www.mediafire.com/?4ms62upnssmzn1q
"grungy promise fame sickeningness" -- having some fun with ambient, not really what I work on these days, but worth an upload. http://www.mediafire.com/?438r8t9d8h89r07
"Well-Trained Ape" http://www.mediafire.com/?423jvz4hda5cn29
"Clever Critter." Rough cut of instrumental I'm working on. http://www.mediafire.com/?v8oiuqtb73l10kj
"Up The Way (It Goes and Goes)" BS-ing my way around the piano. http://www.mediafire.com/?foaaqyp2h8zy089
New Version of "Made No Difference To Me." http://www.mediafire.com/?q07q15lojb5gllq
"Doctor's Visit" One from the vault. http://www.mediafire.com/?d0d24359lv4a158
"I Like To Play Guitar." Well, I do. New link. http://www.mediafire.com/?jrti7zdxr3kiocc
"Postmodern Toilet Hues" Hadn't done lo-fi noise rock in a while. http://www.mediafire.com/?fh20xyy1m4cv4yj
"Mommy Was Right (Sparkles)" Revision of the classic ballad that shocked the world. http://www.mediafire.com/?u7kk5kdqahnv9ha
"My Girl Likes Beauty" This one has been sitting around since summer. http://www.mediafire.com/?cnid5kapkqa3z3j
"In the Doghouse". Self-explanatory? http://www.mediafire.com/?qwzlzjzznem
"The Coolest Groove in Town" I'm excited about this one, more musically mature I think. Still very rough, I need to practice! but give it a spin. http://www.mediafire.com/?zjwtaajg0ny
"The Old Stuff in the Garage" Real quick one, came together on the fly last nite. See what ya think. http://www.mediafire.com/?q5x5w2lmznn
"San Simeon" I am very proud of this song. And it's a real song mind you. http://www.mediafire.com/?nm4ny2yj4ym
"Flash Mob (First Assembly)" Very rough cut of what I plan to do. This could be epic, this could be pretentious. This could be anything but it must be ferocious. http://www.mediafire.com/?zymmtnqwomt
If that is too aggressive for you, please enjoy this tender love song
"Made No Difference To Me." My newest oddity. Open to lyrics suggestions. Pretty much whole song was ad-libbed. http://www.mediafire.com/?3k1izwzwdlm
"Madelines and Ladyfingers." (more or less a song, one that still sounds good, year old now) http://www.mediafire.com/?wyxdtnfmmhe
"Shining Your Light In My Face." Revised cut. Check this out. Might induce schizophrenia. http://www.mediafire.com/?mylj2lntiyq
"Relations." In an effort to get more people to listen to the brilliant Jackson C. Frank, here's a cover of one of his most cathartic songs, recorded long after the entire world had turned its back on him. http://www.mediafire.com/?ztjc5umhgit
"Sweet Suite." I am increasingly proud of this one. I distorted the heck out of that keyboard. Sounds like Soft Machine (minus the music education). http://www.mediafire.com/?zvditgend2t
"Oranges." Could have been a good day. I find this catchy, but I might be nutty. http://www.mediafire.com/?izuuzdjm2kz
"Passport." Noise satire I forgot I made, circa last summer. http://www.mediafire.com/?ewxjzije0by
"Song 3" (short one, more trippiness). http://www.mediafire.com/?yiujivrtihn
"The Last Laugh" (sorta Syd Barrett-ty). http://www.mediafire.com/?nmeznzog3zl
"Little This, Little That" Purely random guitar playing, done according to theory of obscurity. Does it work at all? http://www.mediafire.com/?xywroztzzmz
"Questions Why." Lovely guitar improv -- this thing could go forever, just a raw 2 min sample http://www.mediafire.com/?gmmzmm2jjx1
"Don't Be A Bloke!" Inspired by Throbbing Gristle last summer. http://www.mediafire.com/?mwnyzjnnw0i
"History of Western Philosophy" (a political statement, perhaps; I like to pretend there is Henry Cow influence in the opening sax solo) http://www.mediafire.com/?lnjlmzykfzm
"Mommy Was Right." My hit song! neurotic pop in the vein of Ween or Residents http://www.mediafire.com/?xy2mfmonynd

lol. Brilliant. Who did the vocals?
Moi, monsieur.
what the fuck. how did you make yourself sound like a girl. hahahahha! good song. i was sure you got a girl to sing it and i was about to commend her performance.
i squeezed my thighs together -- no, it's a vocal effect called helium voice on garageband
that's awesome. love the trippy intro/outro. well done sir. ahahahhahahah. fucking brilliant.
Wow, did you really just listen to it 5 times on last.fm? Wow. I am seriously flattered.
haha. i like that song. I would listen to it another 5 times I reckon.
Very impressive these new offerings. I'm especially fond of Don't Be a Bloke! Nice guitar work on Questions Why too.
Thanks! What did you like about Don't Be a Bloke? I'm hoping to eventually do an epic version of Questions Why, with like 5 guitars overdubbed.
It was trippy.
Yes. It does. Your guitar sounds beautiful. I like the way you play Satisfaction (at the end), hehe. The frustration is really apparent. And I realize that's perhaps the least interesting part of the song, so forgive my crudeness! Nice job.
Ha! Yeah, Satisfaction was an unconscious decision. Did not notice it until you pointed it out. I shall try more of this blind playin'.
Love the sound of your guitar. Another nice demo from thoust. Here's my new one: Scatalogical Proclivities (you can find lyrics here)
I'm telling you, you've got your own genre going here. Like if Tiny Tim and Zappa had a lovechild who spent all him time on 4chan. My favorite line was actually the least vulgar: "In a reconcilliatory misunderstandilliatory way"
Heh! Makes me very happy to know you're listening and appreciate the feedback! Though I wonder if I don't vaguely gravitate towards the Psychobilly genre.
Not a problem. Psychobilly? Needs MOAR bluesiness!
Don't Be A Bloke!: interesting Gristle and spacey Residents track
History of Western Philosophy: meh, not really my thing, but surly is a pretty good track
The Last Laugh: i wouldn't mind hearing a mashing of this and Western Philosophy
Little This, Little That: i like this
Mommy Was Right: love this
Questions Why: pretty good start...
Thanks for the feedback! Mommy WAS Right.
This new one is perhaps your most fascinating song, certainly the funniest. I was ready to proclaim it your masterpiece, but it does drag on a bit. I stopped laughing hysterically after about 3-4 min. Very weird. Deliciously kookie and surprisingly layered and intricate. It's absolutely insane and schizophrenic, yet danceable. This song is like a sonic feast! I find it quite fulfilling.
YES! I do agree that it's my best experimental song yet. It could use some editing. I was very inspired today. Expect a few more songs soon!
Sweet Suite is very nice. Quite unlike anything you've done so far.
Relations is takes us to Time-Time (?).
Should be fixed now. Let me know.
Yep, that's the one.
beautiful. ya, you pretty much owned that song. jesus, i just fell in love with these chords. ty for posting!
thank you. the guy was a true musician, but one of the saddest life stories ever. I wholeheartedly recommend the compilation Blues Run The Game.
dude, i would love to produce your album. i think you have tremendous potential, but we are too far apart, so keep the ODDITY going. let the RSM/Resident spirit consume you and rattle your bones: you've got something here, but it is too raw right now: DIG! DIG! and DIG! some more, and when you feel like you are through digging DIG! some more!
Thanks so much, Feif! With all the music you've listened to, and your great taste, I take your compliments very seriously. I shall continue this graveyard shift until the zombies come to life, and to quote another freak-poet, tombstones become surfboards!
i like the "tombstones become surfboards!" who said that?
Zoogz Rift. That guy is so much fun. Seen these videos? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-5XRdBDA-w AND http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE8d6yUpDG0.
I like the second one, in particular, because it's on the Uncle Floyd Show, which RSM played on a bunch of times. Something in the NJ water, huh? Feelies, RSM, Zoogz, and (maybe) me!
Your output is impressive so far. Keep up the good work and stuff, even tho inspiration is random and this prolly won't help or anything, prolly make it worse actually. But, for what it's worth, i like your stuff.
Demento jazz! I like it.
Not as fond of the Coolest Groove. I don't share your love for that riff and I found it a bit aimlessly noodly. I mean don't get me wrong the riff is catchy but it goes on too long.
Fair enough, though I disagree. I think that riff has very long mileage once there's enough accompaniment and variation in the song. I'm working on composing that stuff; this is a really rough cut. It is meant to be more of a meditative jam than a song, but I can see where you're coming from.
In any case, thank you for the constructive criticism. I do appreciate it.
Interesting. It reminded Zach of 80s goth rock. For me, it was runaway psych-folk. I like how the music elicits different interpretations.
love those vocals in doghouse
Thanks as always. Still very fond of your tune "Volcanos"
I can't seem to listen to your new one "I Like to Play Guitar". It won't let me begin the download.
That's odd. Hopefully the new link will work. Here's some other tunes in case it doesn't.
Doctor's Visit is very nice. I admire that you can create music like this.
Made No Difference To Me is a great song, and very funny. I wonder if there's any significance to the lyrics, are they schizophrenic for instance? or just jibberish. Whatever the case it's an interesting song, and sounds great.
Up the Way (It Goes and Goes) needed some refinement I think. Even though I enjoyed listening to it, it was too noodly for my taste ;)
Clever Critter was great. I especially like the part near the end of each section. Sounds wonderful. Also like the title, that is one clever critter ;)
And Well-Trained Ape. Aside from the (seemingly) Residents-esque Ooga Boogie chant, I loved it. The piano flourishes were wonderfully demented, and I loved the shouting. Also really liked the lyrics.
However I still cannot download I Like to Play Guitar. I can only guess it's a server error or something. Anyways, thanks so much for sharing these. I get a real kick outta listening to them. Hope to hear more music from you. I am making a concerted effort to work on it more regularly.
I really appreciate your comments; it's helpful to get your description of the songs and what you liked about them specifically :) Also, I know some of this is really rough, spontaneous, etc., so thanks for giving it such an open listen.
Re: Made No Difference To Me -- those lyrix were mostly spontaneous, especially the walrus characters, then I refined them. I don't even know if they're literally walruses! To me, it's free associative symbolism I guess, and trying to evoke different responses. A few lines mean quite a lot to me. Whether they mean the same to someone else, I dunno. It's actually a pretty sad song I think.
I'm slowing but surely composing material for a solid album. In the meantime, if I have anything sitting in the vault (like this material), I'll keep sharing it. Let me just email you the guitar improv, that oughta work! I look forward to hearing more of your stuff too, I definitely always enjoy it, and I hope to give you as much support as you have given me.
