Summer Movie Series?
Here in Columbus, Ohio, one of our stately old theatres, The Ohio Theatre, has a movie series each summer. This year they're showing 16 features and 1 collection of silent comedy shorts. Before, after and, in the case of the silent films (I assume), during the patrons are treated to music on a huge organ which is built into the theater. It's actually quite a fun experience. Anyway, my girlfriend and I are planning on taking one of these in and I was looking for feedback from some esteemed listologists as to which of the remaining films they would most like to see on the big screen. As of tonight they are 3 features into the series. Coming up is Dial M For Murder (1954) which I've seen, and thought was great but would rather not see again. But please feel free to recommend any film you hold dear. In addition, I'd be interested in knowing if any other parts of the world have cool summertime revival series like the one we have here.

"The Great Escape" would be fabulous on the big screen...but if you want pure escapism mixed with nostalgia, I vote for the always funny "Abbott and Costello" feature. Enjoy!
Are credibility and esteem the same thing? Dang. Well, I'll forge ahead anyway . . . The Great Escape gets my vote, although the teenager in me would be perfectly happy with Ghostbusters.
I tend to think I am the only one who holds myself in any esteem but that has never deterred me before, so here goes. If you have not seen The Great Escape, I would highly recommend a viewing. I would love to see that one on the big screen.
If the house has a great sound system, you can not go wrong with any of the musicals. I would put Yankee Doodle first and then maybe Seven Brides; a very cheesy musical, but some truly great dancing. 42nd Street is also wonderful.
As to your question about other areas. The Boston area has a few revival houses with one of the best, The Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square, about 3 miles from my house.
Wait a sec!
You're near the Brattle theater??
That practically the homebase for the Chlotrudis awards! We hold screenings and events there all the time!
Wow, how's that for interesting. We're even thinking of holding next year's awards ceremony there.
Yup I could walk there if I was feeling energetic. My Wife used to work in a store right across the alley. Its a nice theatre.
I know you have written about these awards before but fill me in. I think I remember seeing something about them in the Boston Globe.
Though I aim never to be esteemed (!), I'd have to go with 42nd Street (ah, to see Busby Berkeley sequences on a big screen!) and Yankee Doodle Dandy. Ben Hur is a fun silent film, and for a guilty pleasure, I admit that From Russia with Love is my favorite Bond film. The two classic musical probably get my vote, though.
I hope that helps!
Shalom, y'all!

If you could keep the comments about our huge organ to a minimum it would be greatly appreciated. And please keep the feedback limited to the esteemed listologists and the esteemed listologists only. If you have yet to be esteemed please see one of the members about the regular, Thursday-night, secret meetings and we will parcel out a secret signal from the Big Book of Sign Language. :-)
