Nick Hornby has a new book out called Songbook, a collection of essays about 31 songs which he considers to be the "soundtrack of his life."
You can see Hornby's list, along with notable songs named by other Brits (I assume they're Brits as I've never heard of most of them), in this article in the Guardian Unlimited Observer.
I haven't quite decided whether I could compose a list like this, could you?

I probably could make a list like Hornsby's. I'd just have to remember the key events is my life and think about what songs are evoked. Some of them probably won't even be really good songs.
I like to think I already did a similiar list in my ABC's of Rock and Roll list on this site. It was not songs but artists but I think it was in the same vein. I am sure Nick stole the idea from me and changed it a little to make it not so obvious.....:)
In a blatant display of self promotion you can check it out Here
I certainly think I can create such a list. It would be interesting to read other entries to this type of discussion. I'm going to start working on my life right now!
I don't think I could do it.
Certainly not with an analyzed public description of how the song deeply effected me at a particular time in my life. It'll be interesting to discover whether he started with the song, the period in his life or the exact synchronization of both.
You've definitely peeked my curiousity in his book, though. Thanks!
You mean piqued.
Sho nuff! : )
