Red Dragon

Even though Hannibal left such a bad taste in my mouth, it's hard not to get excited about the cast of the upcoming Red Dragon: Anthony Hopkins, Edward Norton, Ralph Fiennes, Harvey Keitel, Emily Watson, Mary Louise-Parker, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Good gravy!

I agree it is a very good cast but I am saddened by this remake. I thought the original Manhunter is one of the least appreciated movies of the 80's. A very good Michael Mann movie. BTW this is Harris' best book; A truly creepy page turner.
I'll chip in here to say that, while I haven't seen it since 1987 (gee, I was 14!), I really, really liked Manhunter. Very unappreciated. Heck, I noticed the All Movie Guide only this past month or two finally gave it a decent rating. Maybe people are catching on...
Haven't read the book, so I can't comment there. Maybe I should.
The new film does have a stellar cast, and I'm hoping for greatness even if I fear a bomb might be about to land. I'll keep my fingers crossed tight.
Right after my theatre showed the trailer for Red Dragon, they had a teaser for Solaris. Now that has my interest! Any one else curious about that one?

I also liked Manhunter but I saw it right after seeing Silence of the Lambs and I think it suffered from the close proximity. I'd be curious to see it again to see if I feel differently 10 years later.
I haven't seen the trailer, but I'm also excited for the third Soderbergh/Clooney outing. Although Ocean's Eleven, while enjoyable, wasn't nearly the movie Out of Sight was (IMO). But Solaris promises to be quite different, so my nagging fears of a declining trend are almost certainly just paranoid.
:)
The original Solaris, of course, was directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. Tarkovsky's Andrei Rublev recently became the first film in a LONG time to crack my personal top ten favorite films ever. Amazing, with a great Criterion DVD to boot!

Here we go, Jim! Not exactly the most logical place, but...

Thanks! I should have thought to check the news. I need to make these posts searchable as well. I'll definitely let you know what I think of Andrei Rublev.
Wow, it's pretty rare that a "top 10 ever" list changes! Will you be updating this list? I've added Andrei Rublev to my "to see" list, thanks!
I have to agree that one looks encouraging. Love those Plot Number One movies and Soderbergh and Clooney did their best work together on Out of Sight.
I actually just finished reading the latest Entertainment Weekly while waiting for my wife at the Doctor's office and they have the fall Movie Preview. Lots of good stuff coming up. Lets hope they can live up to expectations.
