Now is the time for all good Listologists...

I'm winding down my Listology "winter" 2002 updates, and it makes sense this would be one of the last features to go in. Listology now features a very prominent box that shows up about a third of the time asking you to donate or to buy Listology merchandise. Doing one of those things gets you a reprieve from the box and it helps me keep Listology going.

On the donation front, I'm using the Amazon Honor System because I stopped trusting PayPal. Their fees are higher, but I've always liked their service. Feel free to e-mail me if you want to donate some other way. If you're cash-strapped, perhaps we can barter. :-)

On the merchandise front, I'm using CafePress and only offering coffee mugs at the moment, but would be happy to add any other items on request. A "Buy Merchandise" link has been added to the "Highlights" to the left, and it won't disappear regardless of how much you donate (the reasoning being that even donors might still want to buy cool Listology stuff). I ordered myself a mug to make sure it wasn't poor quality, and I'm quite pleased with it.

On a related front, I'm happy to announce that anybody who donated prior to the appearance of the big ugly box will never see it, and will get access to any "Pro" features that I may or may not implement for as long as this site exists (well, until 1/1/3000, which is what I set your expiration date to). Thanks you for donating! Oh, if your curious anyway, this is what the nag-box looks like.

Sorry to have to do this; it feels rather crass. Unfortunately at $100/month to keep this site going, I have to take steps to take the financial edge off. Think of it as a tip!

Thanks!

Jim, how come when I search for the term "addictions" (for all the "Current Addictions" lists) it doesn't return AJDaGreat's list as part of the search?

He has his filed under a custom "Miscellaneous" genre, but the default search just does the the entertainment genres. You'll have to check "misc. content" for his (and kbuxton's) to be returned (but then the rest of ours won't be). Or they could move theirs to "movies" like the rest of us. :-)

Will do.

Hey Jim,

Cool Cups, unfortunately I do not drink Coffee. Love the Stickers but my wife has a huge aversion to anything on the bumper of our cars.

How about a baseball Cap that fits a huge head. I know for people who read my less frequent ramblings on this sitethis will not surprise you but I have one huge noggin. Those hats that say one size fits all are lying. Well that is if no one voted me out of the collective "All" and failed to inform me.

I take a size 8 fitted hat. So basically depending on what type of hat you can get, I would proudly wear a Listology lid this summer. If i got in enough time it might even make it over to Russia this summer.

A huge noggin would certainly be a prerequiste for storing all that movie knowledge. Unfortunately CafePress hats are indeed of the "one size fits all (as long as you fall within a certain range of the head-size bell curve)" variety. Alas.

Jim, I hate to bug you with another new feature, but something just came up. Dgeiser13 just made a hell of a lot of updates to his lists, but the "Recent Activity" page only goes back so far (unlike the "Recent Posts" page, which has an option at the bottom to "Read Older Posts"). Could you add a "Read Older Activity"? Thanks!

Unfortunately that'd be kinda tricky because the current query just grabs the "top" 35 records. There isn't a command to grab the next 35 records (I know I allow that on other pages, but those are less involved as this one pulls in data from a bunch of different sources). It can be done, it just might be awhile before I get to it. It's on the list though!

hey jim,
i'm officially requesting stickers!

i may get a coffee mug at some point too, but i was thinking they may allow you to offer stickers at different marked up prices for various levels of donation... or you could keep it to the $3 donation and it'll just be an inexpensive item. just a thought!

Alrighty, I'll get right on the stickers! I'll post here when I've finished them.

CafePress only allows tiered pricing for their "premium" stores which cost $5/month. Honestly, I'm not sure I'm going to make that much from this store! I may tweak the pricing structure and language on the store at bit, varying the markup for different things. I'll play around with it. I've also asked CafePress if they'd consider making tiered pricing a "basic" feature, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for the reply!

Okeedokee, I did oval stickers because they were harder. Let me know if you want rectangular; they'll be easy. I just stuck with the $3 markup, but feel free to e-mail me and tell me what price you want to pay. I'll just update it to whatever you want and then change it back. :-)

BTW, since I haven't gotten any real orders yet I'm not sure what kind of confirmation I get from Amazon or CafePress that will allow me to match "you the donor/customer" up with "you the Listologist". I assume I'll be able to match your e-mail from the invoice with the e-mail you've entered into Listology (which you can enter without having it appear publicly), but feel free to drop me a line if I haven't recorded your payment and you keep seeing the nagging box after, say, 48 hours (I have to get the confirmation from the merchant and then update the Listology database so it stops appearing). Thanks again!
