I wonder how they really decide what DVDs to use with a la carte. I know they say it's pricey and HTF stuff, but I spot "Somersault" under European films. It's a new release Australian Film, only just out on DVD and probably not that difficult or (comparatively) expensive for them to buy.
I hope they add more TV sets to a la carte. I have a knack of beginning a series right before one of the other discs goes missing.
According to the forum, they also do it with some Hong Kong cheap discs, because they are so fragile. I believe this is a smart move on their part, to offset some of the financial risk to their customers. From reading the forum, I gathered that they sometimes have just one copy of each title. They are a very small operation. I hope they stay in business!
Thanks for pointing to the forum. The discussion there answered some of my questions. I am very excited about this feature.
Are you a Nicheflix subscriber?
Nope. Awhile ago I was eagerly awaiting them to launch the a la carte option. But now I've seen through Netflix a lot of the movies I could previously only get through Nicheflix, so my need is not as urgent. I'm also busy enough that I can barely keep up with my Netflix 3-out plan (used to be I was on 5-out and still had nights with no movie at home once in awhile). But if I can find a batch of four Nicheflix movies that excite me, maybe I'll treat myself to the $20 or so and make a marathon out of it.
The only one I need to rent a la carte is Black God, White Devil (1001 Movies I must see...).
