New Site Announcement: QuoteHog

Tags:

I was enjoying keeping my "Quotes from Books and Magazines as I Read Them" list (now defunct) enough that I spun it off as a sister site called QuoteHog (thanks again for the inspiration, cmonster). The workings should be pretty familiar, as it's built on the Listology infrastructure. Also, for those of you that commented on that list, I moved your comments over to the appropriate entries on the new site. Hope you don't mind (it's really the same site with a new, webloggy skin)! Let me know if so, and I'll remove them. Feedback welcome!

Anyway, with that behind me, and a pesky certification exam out of the way come mid-August, hopefully I'll have a little more time to actually participate here again!

Jim, why not include links to Listology quote lists - subject to permission, and you have mine.

I hope this question isn't too naive, but what's the significance of the shell?

I believe that it is a play on words concerning the quahog clam. The clam graphic is actually variety specific or I don't know my bivalves. Then again it could be a Family Guy reference which confounds me. ("I haven't been this confused since the ending of No Way Out... How does Kevin Costner keep getting work?")

Sounds plausible. Some say "kwa-hog", but others say "ko-hog". Wonder what Jim says.

A play on words (of dubious quality) it is, good call 0. And I say kwa-hog.

Also, yeah bertie, the quotes I'm going for are generally longer (it's really more of an "excerpt" site, but I couldn't work that into a bad pun). I linked to cmonster's list because it was my original inspiration.

Jim, on second look I see by 'quotes' you don't mean the short pithy items I was thinking of, so I don't insist that you include my quote lists, unless you think this one is suitable.

Wow! QuoteHog is one nice-looking site! And informative too...

I look forward to browsing it.

Johnny Waco

Thanks Johnny!

I like it! I think attaching comments to each individual excerpt works better for that kind of thing.

My "profile" from Listology has apparently been ported to QuoteHog (great name, great design, BTW!). If I change my profile on QuoteHog, will it change on Listology, too? If it does, I don't think it should.

Hey, thanks lukeprog! I'm glad you like it. I was pretty psyched to come up with the name and logo, even if it is based on a pretty bad pun. :-) I had found this old roman coin with a pig on it, and had that just about to my liking when inspiration struck (for better or worse) and I went with what you see now. It was a fun project massaging Listology into accepting a whole 'nother site built on top of it (the next one should be easier), and I have been enjoying trying to identify the best "teaser" from whatever I happen to read, so as a weblog it should be fun to maintain.

As for decoupling the profiles, you're absolutely right. Good catch, thanks! That will take a bit of work though, so for now I've posted a cautionary note on the "edit" screen.
