The Movie Blog nails pre-movie advertisement frustration:
Easily the most frustrating of these ads are the projected motion ads that we are literally FORCED to watch as part of the ticket purchase. Trailers, I don't mind: it's simply an ad for more of the very product you just purchased -- ie: I don't mind a waiter telling me what the special is, because I'm hungry, and I'd like to know - I'm there to eat, aren't I?... However, I would have a problem if the waiter took it upon himself to sell me Ginsu knives or a magazine subscription. I'm paying for my meal. And that's it.
Maybe this fellow has the right idea.

I couldn't agree more, and I do my best to visit the local theaters that still haven't caved in to running ads before the trailers and the film. I could always do with a few more trailers, but no more ads.
Also, thinks for pointing to the Movie Blog. What a great site.
Thanks (and you're welcome :-)! The other advertising practice I loathe comes from some catalog retailers: you call to place an order and you start getting a hard sell for this other crap they're trying to foist off on you, like magazine subscriptions, fer cryin' out loud! Isn't it enough that I'm ordering stuff from them in the first place?
One time I was having a problem with my AOL account, and when I called technical support to have them fix it, they tried to sell me this new faster version of AOL. My mom even thought they had just planned the error so that they could advertise the new version!
