It's Time II
Sorry, I wanted to make a quick follow-up post regarding my resignation to the home page so everyone would see it. Two things:
First, thank you all for the kind words, support, and understanding! I'm overwhelmed. I started to feel silly thanking each person individually who posted on the other page, but please know that I'm reading everything, and I'm touched. I am honored that this little slice of the Internet matters as much to you as it does to me.
Second, I fear my original post made it sound like the site was coming down in a matter of moments. My first order of business is to find a successor. Only if that fails will I take the site down. But no matter what happens there will be plenty of warning, and I'll make sure everybody gets their data out if it comes to that. I will create an export tool to make it easy, no need to copy/paste or pull out overnight. This is Listology, not a U.S. bank.
:-)
Thanks!
Jim

An aside, Jim..
I haven't been getting the Updated Content, New Post and Response Notification e-mails lately. I've just changed my e-mail address as I thought it might be some over-zealous spam filters on that address (filters that remove mail before it even gets to me), but I thought I'd ask in case there were probs on your end?
I don't think there are problems on this end. I just got this response notification from you, for example. Are you still not getting responses, even after changing addresses?
Seems to be working now (this is the first response I've had since changing the address, so I didn't know until now.) Guess it was on my end then!
I would be interested... Maybe a joint effort with someone else? I'm a web developer, though I'm a php guy and haven't used coldfusion. This site seems to get a fair amount of traffic and shouldn't have to die
Cool, drop me an e-mail off-list (see the footer - it's my first name AT my last name dot com). Thanks!
That is all disappointing news :( Well, I suppose you can't run the site forever. It was definitely a lot of fun while it lasted, and I think you did a wonderful job with it.
I'd would take the site over myself, being a webmaster and all, but I'm way too busy with school, work, wedding plans, and thesis research. Plus I don't know any database languages - basically just HTML, CSS, and Javascript (although I can also operate a server).
About how much work does listology take each week? And does it make money or lose money?
Hey there darktremor,
Be sure to check out the other page I linked to, it has much more information. Briefly though, the site doesn't take much work to run, maybe 5 or 10 minutes a day to moderate posts from new users. And it loses about $15/month.
Yeah, I can't afford that :(
I have a suggestion though for the money: why not make a "donate" button, in which one can either send money via paypal to you, or at which location one can click a series of ads that you get paid whenever people click on them.
If I ever took it over, I couldn't take a deficit. However, if that idea worked, and the site started breaking even (or it did for some other reason), I'd take it.
I'm sure if we all shared thoughts and ideas (and perhaps cash) on the money issue, it wouldn't be too much of a problem, the ads may not be what people want but it may be what is necessary for the site's survival.
