I'm so confident the whole Y2K thing is going to be a non-event that I'm going to rent some need-electricity-to-watch-them movies. So the question is, what should I rent to ring in the new year? Click on "discuss" below to make your recommendations (if anybody out there is online during the holiday).

Okay, so what did you rent to ring in the new year?
Well, 12/31 also happens to be our daughter's birthday (she's now 2), and since she was all hyped up from the cake and presents, we caved and watched Elmo in Grouchland for the 40th time. :) It's actually pretty good. I have to find a list for it. How 'bout this one?
We rented The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Life (1999), and Inherit the Wind (1999). The first I felt didn't age well into current times (watch for a future list on this subject) though it wasn't bad. The second was surprisingly good, but it wasn't a comedy. It was pretty deep. The last was for my wife to watch (she's a teacher, and into Dying Baby Movies.)
I've also got True Stories running in the background on my laptop's DVD player -- the scene at dinner with the head of Varicorp is still applicable (and very prophetic) to today's high-tech world.
Others I want to rent (or re-rent) soon include: Mickey Blue Eyes (1999), Playtime (1967), Parade (1974), Traffic (1971), Mon Oncle (1958), Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948), Kentucky Fried Movie (1977), The Siege (1999), Twin Dragons (1999), and EDtv (1999). Note: if you've ever thought about buying a house, rent -- no, buy! -- Mr. Blandings and watch it a bunch of times. Keep in mind that it's not realistic -- it's really much worse!
