Producer Peter Jackson and company have found a director for their Halo (2008) movie project, based on the game of the same name. His name is Neill Blomkamp. No, I hadn't heard of him either. But some of his work is readily available for viewing on the Internet. After watching his reel of 3 commercials and 2 short films I can definitely understand how he got the job. Tetra Vaal and Alive In Joburg, especially, are visionary work. AICN also scored an interview the day after the announcement. This could turn out to be a very good movie.

Back from a few days in Cape Cod.
This is pretty off-topic, but a friend told me something interesting the other day. You know that classic "Got Milk?" commercial where the guy can't respond on the radio show that Aaron Burr is the person who shot Alexander Hamilton in the famous duel, because he's eating a peanut butter sandwich and has no milk? Did you know that commercial was directed by Michael Bay? I think it's probably Bay's best work.
How do you log in to the site to view his work? It doesn't work...
That's odd. It was working fine before. I've changed it to a new link. Please let me know if it works.
I found the links to his commercials and short films on his Wikipedia page much easier to use.
Cool. Yeah, I saw the stuff on YouTube and Google Video as well but I think the image quality is a lot better on his official reel. The link above should be working now.
Think there's any chance he'd shoot the thing in that cinéma vérité style? That'd be cool.
That's a really good question. I'm sure hoping that's the style of the movie. I don't think I've ever seen such a seamless blending of the real world and computer graphics. Especially one that wasn't like "see here, look at me, I'm a computer graphic!" It gives me hope for Halo and for the future of science fiction in film in general.
