It may end up merely silly chatter, but if not, good golly! I certainly will tune in to see if a Sly & the Family Stone reunion happens at the Grammys...

I blew through the Grammy's on my DVR last night. What was up with Sly Stone? I felt sorry for the old man.
Word on the street has long been that Sly has fried his brain like that egg on the anti-drug commercial. I hope he has found happiness, but it didn't look like he saw much back on the stage.
Still, I think that's the first time I've seen him in anything but archival footage, so that's something.
Shalom, y'all!

Thanks for the news! He is one of the most amazing singers. I think "Family Affair" got to be one of the best vocal performances ever. Hell, the whole album "There's A Riot Goin' On" is an amazing vocal performance by Sly. I NEVER watch the Grammys, but now I probably will, just to see if he'll perform. I hope he's still got the chops like Arthur Lee of Love?
As far as the winners, I think I heard the Arcade Fire got some noms, so GO FUNERAL!
There is no way that they book him. The Grammys are about eighty minutes of material with a running time of over three hours. They have a run-through. Sly shows up late (and cuts out early) for his own induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He left his own band hanging out there. He's made but a handful of gigs in the past two decades. There's no way that the Grammys will trust him to make the show... let alone play his three to five minutes and get off the stage.
Which is unfortunate.
...mostly for us.
Although I wouldn't put it past the Grammys to play coy about this right up until the broadcast. They might think that it'll help to reach a younger, hipper audience... by talking about sixty-two-year-old artist who hasn't recorded a thing in over a quarter of a century.
Which is unfortunate.
...mostly for us.
Well, Sly showed (for a bit)...
And that's all I'm sayin' at the moment... :)

yea, even if he doesn't there's always "Riot" to turn to...
...and make times seem even rougher.
What you say is so true. It made me think to myself, "Why aren't artists making music like that any more?"
And then I thought, "Why do we still need music like that?"
And now I am glum.
It's hard to think of another album that's been so influential, yet still nothing sounds like it as a whole. Sure, there's Prince who occasionally finds a similar groove, but "Riot" is the grimiest, deadliest funk there ever was or ever will be. It reeks.
And of course, it's a masterpiece.
