Can anyone help

Can anyone help g3girl out with the discussion-request part of this list? As for her administrative request, is there any interest in it before I decide to tackle it?

Actually, that's not a bad idea -- I kinda came up with this list in the same spirit (although, partially as a warning to others who might have been looking for a light flick as well.) While I'm at it, I'll suggest adding a way (perhaps a "(0)") to get to the non-maintenance version of your own lists that haven't yet received comments.

Ah yes. I'll add that to the "to do" list, thanks.

One or both of you need to post more details on the proposals. I'm not sure what's being suggested.

There are no doubt many forms that this could take but two come to my mind immediately. 1: Jim could take suggestions and then pick at his discretion, or randomly, or by numerological analysis, a movie to be watched between a stated time period. The movie and the time frame could then be highlighted on the listolgy home page and anyone who so chooses would watch and then discuss beginning on the specified date. The discussion could be unstructured, with listologites posting opinions or be targeted by Jim to a certain part of the movie: style, content, whatever. 2) Listologites who are interested could "subscribe" stating their intrest publicly and then Jim could pick at his discretion, or randomly, or by reverse alphabetical order, a person to choose a movie and then initiate discussion. As in option 1) the movie and time frame could be outlined on the main listology page. So that's my suggestion in greater detail-- an idea really, meant to be expanded and or implemented if the interest exists.

Interesting. In an nutshell, we could start a Listology movie club, book club, and/or music club. We could have moderator(s) for each club, and I could make the moderator(s) into editor(s) that could post club updates to the home page. So a moderator/editor could post something like:

"The Listology book club will be discussing The Eternal Footman by James Morrow (couldn't resist) on May 15th. Check back then for the discussion."

The method of voting for/choosing books could be up to the each club. There's no reason why there couldn't be clubs for specific interests (classic movies, shakespeare, jazz, etc.).

So, the questions:

  1. Anybody interested in participation and/or moderation?
  2. Is additional infrastructure required/desired to help these clubs? Possibilities:

    • The ability to create a formal club that folks can join.
    • Each club gets their own page for announcements (in addition to the ability to make home pages announcements), club administrative tools, etc.
    • Voting mechanisms for choosing what to read/watch/listen to next (open to club members only)
    • Mailing lists

This will be alot of work, so unless there is much enthusiasm, I will probably wait to implement this stuff until the clubs have proven their appeal.

But those are only semi-random thoughts. Comments?

Re. question 1: count me in for participation - as for moderation, I'm an extremist [forget I said that] - no, I mean maybe when my Challenge Lists have quieted down.

Re. question 2: some of these measures would probably become necessary, but, yes, cross them bridges when you've fallen in the river.

listologites? Isn't listologists much more mellifluous? And important-sounding, as well?
