Are you an aspiring author who has thought of a real grabber of an opening line for your next unpublished novel? If yes, you should enter The Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest. All you need send them is that zinger of an opening line, and you could win...well, I don't know, I didn't read that far.

Thanks for suggesting this site. I really enjoyed the opening line about being on the launch pad ready to blast off with the chimp and ... well, this page is worth looking at if you want a big laugh. I don't want to spoil it for anyone!
My favorite is the one that begins "She wasn't really my type..."
You might or might not know that Bulwer-Lytton was the writer who actually published (in the early 1800s) a novel that began "It was a dark and stormy night..." - which has become the classic example of vapidity in opening lines.
