They're reviving the Batman franchise. While I would have expected this news to give me a shiver of apprehension, I find myself surprised to experience a tentative thrill of anticipation: Christopher Nolan is directing, and Christian Bale is starring.

I think with Nolan behind the camera, this could easily become the best Batman movie. "Memento" is the best film of this decade so far, in my book. I also hear that Warner Bros. plans to take the series in a new direction, which would be refreshing after He Who Must Not Be Named screwed up the series. Maybe they waited eight years after the last movie in hopes that everyone would forget about it. Well, just as Schumacher was somewhat redeemed in my eyes with "Phone Booth", let's hope that the 5th "Batman" will redeem the series.
I realized that I've never seen Christian Bale in any movie (except when he voiced a minor character in "Pocahontas"), but you seem enthusiastic about him. What makes you think he can take on the role of Batman? I don't doubt it, I'm just curious to hear your thought process.
I've seen him in Equilibrium, Reign of Fire, Shaft, and American Psycho, and he's been good in all of them. I think he looks the part, but more importantly I think he's capable of putting the darkness back in The Dark Knight.
