50 Lost Movie Classics

Quite recently The Observer posted a list of 50 Lost Movie Classics. Strangely enough I've seen 6 of them but there's still a few things on the list which piqued my interest. Are there any movies which you think are awesome that no one besides you seem to know about?

I've seen quite a few of these and heard of many others.

*I thought "Millions" was quite excellent and a departure for director Danny Boyle.

*"Safe" was amazing, too...though it'll make you quite paranoid of your environment.

*"Top Secret!" from the ZAZ team definitely has it's hilarious moments, but all-in-all, not their best work.

*"Dreamchild" was a major disappointment. If it were done nowadays, by a director such as Tim Burton (or, at least, the pre-"Mars Attacks!" Burton), it could have been something truly memorable.

*"Beautiful Girls" I thought was rather bland.

*Though I haven't seen it (so, perhaps, I should keep my opinion to myself), it doesn't seem to me that "Save the Last Dance" could be anything more than the formulaic "boy from the bad side of tracks"/"let's put on a show!" pap it appears to be.

*The less said about "Less Than Zero," the better, though I'll just say it's not hard to make a Bret Easton Ellis book into a film that's superior...even if the film is still sub-par.

*I thought "Bamboozled" was decent, but, as with most Spike Lee "Joints," was a tad heavy-handed, with the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the face.

Others I've seen that it's been too long for me to comment on (or they were just that bad): "The State of Things," "Fat City," "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," "Twin Peaks..." ('never was a huge "Peaks" fan), "Let's Scare Jessice to Death," "The Parallax View," "The Day the Earth Caught Fire" ('almost remade a few years back by *gulp* Renny Harlin), "Tin Cup" ("Bull Durham" with golf), "The Ninth Configuration," "Cutter's Way," "Narrow Margin," and "Grace of My Heart."

Not a horrible list, but considering most of the choices on here, I won't be rushing out to rent any of the others.

Save the Last Dance and Millions are lost movie classics? Are we sure they're not just recent mediocrities?

Still, good to see Beautiful Girls there. I loved that movie.

And now I desperately need to see I Wanna Hold Your Hand.

Safe is one of my favorite movies from the 1990s. The rest of the list that I've seen are bad to decent.
