CONTRIBUTIONS ARE WELCOME. FUNNY CONTRIBUTIONS ARE WELCOMER.

Thanks to darktremor for numbers 72 through 90.
SOME WAYS to make a funny contribution to this list.
(1) Completely miss the point of the first movie. Examples: The Wizard of Oz is not about weather. Goldfinger is not about golf. Dr. Strangelove is not about water pollution.
(2) Use a clever play-on-words or pun to link the two movies. Examples: Casablanca (which means whitehouse) features a troubled romance, and so does The American President, which is set in the White House. A famous piece of American graffiti, originating with U.S. soldiers in WW2 Europe, was "Kilroy Was Here". Apocalypse Now takes the form of a disastrous journey up a river, and this is coupled with part of the saying "Up Shit Creek without a paddle".
(3) Choose the second movie so that it compares ridiculously with the first. Examples: The two movies in no. 4 feature women taking men's roles during wartime (and one is named Scarlett and the other Rosie). The first movie in no. 11 is very earnest and serious, the second is a deliberately over-the-top comedy. 18 and 18b both feature trips to the moon, but one is very serious and the other comic.
(4) Use your cinema-buff's knowlege of movie details to link the two movies. Examples: 12a - the climactic scene in North By Northwest takes place on Mount Rushmore. 12b. - Buster Keaton, because he never smiled in his movies, was nicknamed The Great Stone Face. 18a - The plot of O Brother, Where Art Thou? was based upon the plot of the ancient epic poem The Odyssey.

If you liked Half-Baked, you'll like Requiem for a Dream.
If you liked The Maltese Falcon, you'll like Winged Migration.
If you liked Scooby-Doo, you'll like Blow-Up.
This one's probably cheating, but if you like the episode of Family Guy where Death comes to pick up Peter, you'll like The Seventh Seal.
Instead, let me suggest: if you liked Last Action Hero, you'll like The Seventh Seal. Can I put that up for us?
Not having seen Last Action Hero, I don't really get that one, but sure, put it up anyway.
It's better, I assure you. And I know Last Action Hero got a lot of negative reports when it was released, but it is well worth seeing, I assure you of that too. Worth it for the cinema in-jokes and cameo roles, but has much else going for it. Where else are you going to see the SoCS* play Hamlet?

I particularly like 22.
I've considered making all the 'recommendations' visible at once, as you do, but I've decided a 'spoiler' for each one is more effective.

But I thought you liked movies with...
This is depressing. I'll put these on the list (tomorrow), but they can hardly be part of the game (what game, bertie? a game needs players) since you have seen fit to post their explanations for all to see.
Cheer up. You don't have to include them... or you and/or jim can edit and/or delete the above. I'm just trying to avoid the responsibility of oversight. The rules of the game are baffling me... am I supposed to pretend to be witty by creating movie pairings or by explaining them? Give me a moment and I'll lay out some of my guesses. And what's with all the spoilerization? I'm so confused...
[ reply to 117iC ]
Odysseus, I have come to the conclusion that I owe you (and probably everyone who has visited this page) an apology. The game was a mediocre idea at best, but it was a truly bad idea, I now realise, to use all that spoilerizing. Thanks for the wake-up call on that.
I haven't added your contributions yet, but I will soon (nearly lunchtime).
There's some funny stuff on the list (and some groanworthy), so I'm not sorry I started it, just that I fucked up what was basically a good idea.
Don't apologize. I thought think it is great. Look at how I spent my lunch hour. (Okay... it wasn't an hour. Nor was it lunch.) Even if you messed stuff up look at all the responses. (Okay... not all of them.) I wish I could make such a mess.

After much reasoning, pleading and then yelling he moved to the side of the road and made a little campfire. He cooked (and ate) two pounds of bacon right there. Family lore has it that, when others told this story, he said, "You know, it loses a lot of weight when you cook it, bacon does."

Thanks (I think) for this generous set of contributions. You will notice that I have given your Driving Miss Daisy a DoD rating of 3/10. Frankly, it had me puzzled for a little while, so I think it deserves that.
Did you read my "SOME WAYS to make a funny contribution..." before you concocted these?
Lol - I think?
No, I honestly didn't read it. I just wrote everything that popped into my head in a 45 minute daze of insomnia-generated rambling at 3 AM (no sarcasm, that really was how it came out): did I miss the point?
Anyways, glad I could help! :)
I don't mind how you arrive at your contributions, as long as they're funny.
You don't want to have a go at playing the game?
The field's wide open. 2iC is practically yours for the asking.
