Santa’s notes:
I finally got my mixes today and remembered that I had never officially posted my playlist for this year.
At some point I realized a few of the CDs I had bought last year had songs with "waltz" in the titles. I decided it might be fun to put them together on a mix and also include some other songs written in 3/4 time. I realized you could also look at the first section as three chunks of four songs each, since the waltzes are flanked by four songs on either side, giving the "Three Four" an added layer of meaning.
This almost became the first Secret Santa mix without an Adam Again song. I was planning on putting "River on Fire" in the first half, but I accidentally left Dig at my house in Baltimore instead of taking it to my apartment, so I couldn't put it on. I checked Homeboys which I did have here and found that "Hide Away" was in 3/4. Phew, crisis averted! This is also my fourth mix to feature Dogbowl, my third to feature Barenaked Ladies, my second to feature The Mountain Goats, and my second to feature Ween.
What is truly momentous is that this is my first mix without any songs that were originally opening tracks on their respective albums. In fact, in 2008, I had one opening track; in 2007, I had two opening tracks; and in 2005 and 2006, I had four opening tracks. Clearly my reliance on opening tracks has just been decreasing exponentially since '06.
Anyway, whoever got this, I hope you have as much fun listening to it as I had making it.
