Upcoming Movies That I'll Most Likely Want to See
- Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
- The Amazing Spider-Man (I never really liked this series, but I like the idea of getting Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield on board for a gritty reboot, so hell, let's go for it.)
- Arrested Development
- The Conspirator
- Coriolanus
- A Dangerous Method
- The Dark Knight Rises
- The Descendants (I loved Sideways, and have long waited for Alexander Payne's follow-up.)
- Django Unchained
- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (It's David Fincher. I'm sure I'll end up seeing it even if I don't really want to.)
- The Grandmasters (Sure, okay, Wong Kar Wai, whatever you say.)
- Gravity (Yeah, this won't be out for a while, but it's never too early to jump on board for Alfonso Cuaron's next film.)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II
- The Hobbit and its sequel
- J. Edgar
- Kill Bill Vol. 3
- Lincoln (Daniel Day-Lewis as Honest Abe? I'll be there.)
- Margin Call
- Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol (Brad Bird's first live action film? I'll be there!)
- Now (I root for Andrew Niccol. Let's hope he connects with this one.)
- Red State
- The Skin I Live In
- Star Trek 2
- War Horse
- Young Adult
Upcoming Movies That I'm Lukewarm About
- The Adventures of Tintin
- Captain America: The First Avenger
- Cars 2 (I could never put a Pixar movie in the lowest tier, but I think this might become their first flop.)
- The Change Up (Might be stupid, but it could be a pretty funny movie.)
- Contagion (Great cast and director, but epidemic thrillers aren't really my favorite genre.)
- The Debt (So lemme get this straight... The director of Shakespeare in Love takes on a script by the writers of Kick-Ass, which is a remake of an Israeli thriller, and it stars Helen Mirren and Sam Worthington? I really have no idea what to make of that.)
- Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (I really liked Everything Is Illuminated and am curious to see another Jonathan Safran Foer adaptation, but I'm not a big Sandra Bullock fan and Tom Hanks has been really phoning it in lately, so I dunno.)
- The Help (Not sure, but I do love the cast.)
- Hugo Cabret (Scorsese? Yes. 3D? No.)
- Jack the Giant Killer (Whatever you say, Bryan Singer.)
- Larry Crowne
- Miral (I'm not totally sold on this one, but Julian Schnabel behind the camera will surely make it worth looking into.)
- The Muppets (Jason Segel's involvement is a plus, but has the Muppets' film career jumped the shark?)
- On the Road (I'm not sure I have a whole ton of faith in this adaptation...)
- Oz: The Great and Powerful
- Superman: The Man of Steel (Didn't like the last entry, but maybe...)
Upcoming Movies That I Doubt I'll Be Interested In
- all future Alvin and the Chipmunks sequels
- Anonymous (So... the director of Independence Day and 2012 is making a British period piece? Riiiight.)
- all future Avatar sequels
- Bad Teacher
- Bernie (Is... is Richard Linklater... doing a loose remake of Weekend at Bernie's? Seriously?)
- The Big Year
- Faster
- all future Final Destination sequels, especially if the title utilizes the term "5nal"
- the Footloose remake
- Happy Feet 2
- all future Harold and Kumar sequels
- Horrible Bosses (I doubt the terrific cast will be able to save this stupid concept from its lame director.)
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame (the upcoming Tim Burton one)
- Jack and Jill
- all future Meet the Parents sequels
- all future Men in Black sequels
- New Years Eve
- all future Nightmare on Elm Street sequels and reboots
- all future Paranormal Activity sequels

- all future Predator sequels and reboots
- Red Riding Hood and all future gritty reboots of fairy tales that aren't directed by someone I already think is brilliant
- all future Resident Evil sequels
- The Resurrection of the Christ
- all future Saw sequels
- all future Scream sequels
- all future Shrek sequels
- all future Sex and the City sequels
- The Smurfs
- all future Spy Kids sequels
- the Straw Dogs remake
- all future Transformers sequels
- all future Twilight sequels
- The Wolverine (Aronofsky's out and so am I.)
- Wrath of the Titans
- Zookeeper
Author Comments:
Just my opinions, of course. Feel free to comment.

I know this is gonna get me laughed at....but I kinda am curious about Freddy vs. Jason. I know that it's gonna be awful, but I think that two American pop icons fighting might be interesting.
Hmmm... two American pop icons fighting, eh? That gives me an idea. They should mix and match fight movies based on VH1's 200 Greatest Pop Icons list! Now come on, which would you rather see: "Freddy vs. Jason" or "Oprah vs. Superman"?
Yeah, something about those steel cage movies is appealing to me (I wonder if the "Alien vs. Predator" movie will ever happen?) I must admit I'm somewhat curious about Freddy vs. Jason as well, but I still remember being nauseated during my first Friday the 13th viewing (I can't remember which chapter) as an adolescent, so that will probably make me pass on it.
"Alien vs. Predator"? Eh. I like my idea based on the VH1 list better. I wanna see "Bill Clinton vs. the Brady Bunch"!
Alien vs. Predator was just greenlighted I believe.
Envy's release date got pushed back again (to April '04), and the real rumor is that it won't be released theatrically at all. Seems strange given the cast.
That is strange, especially since I thought Jack Black's star was still ascending at a pretty good clip.
Yikes, Man on Fire. I saw a trailer for that not too long ago and it includes Christopher Walken giving voice to one of the worst lines I've ever heard. It went something like: "he's an artist who works in death, and he's about to paint his masterpiece." Oh Christopher, oh Denzel, oh no...
I've seen the Along Came Polly trailer in theaters twice, and the basketball scene has never failed to get big laughs from the crowd. That may very well be the best it has to offer though. Still, unless it bombs I'll probably catch it as a rental.
Which basketball scene? The one in slow motion when the fat guy rubs against Ben Stiller's face? Eww...
I think the diarrhea scene which looks stolen from "Dumb and Dumber" really did it in for me.
Eww indeed! But since the trailer does a pretty nice job setting up Stiller's various neuroses, that scene got quite a laugh out of me, and most other folks in the theater. Then again, it's a pretty depraved bunch that would pay full price for Matrix Revolutions despite the reviews, so maybe that accounts for it.
Wow. A bunch of piss poor reviews at rottentomatoes.com for this crop of movies, but "Mean Girls" comes out on top with an 83 percent (so far)! I for one did not see that one coming.
Garden state looks amazing. a cross between 'About schibt' and a Wes anerson film. cant wait!
Have you seen the trailer for "Paparazzi"? Oh my God. It looks HILARIOUS.
Where do you live, again? A ton of these have already been released in the US and some of the elsewhere, too.
Yes, I'm just too lazy to update this unless I'm adding a lot more.
oh, okay, lol
Re: Forgotten, sorry dude.
:?)
Damn. I heard about the ending, and I think the reviews are justified. But don't you think a fascinating movie could be made on this premise? I do.
Have you read this?
Ah, that's good. I'm glad that since it's inevitable that I'll be seeing it, it sounds like it might even be a good movie.
Get Rich or Die Tryin': Then again, Jim Sheridan is directing. Hadn't heard of The Matador: sounds fantastic, though Shepard's Oxygen doesn't inspire much hope in me.
A History of Violence looks awfully straightforward but totally solid. Maybe like Mystic River or how some people felt about Million Dollar Baby.
I have never seen a Jim Sheridan-directed film (anything you'd recommend?), so that doesn't inspire any optimism in me, but we shall see. I am quite excited for The Matador, though.
Something tells me that no film directed by David Cronenberg will be "awfully straightforward." C'mon, this is the guy who made a movie about people who are turned on by car crashes. :-)
I know, I couldn't believe it was a Cronenberg film when I saw the trailer.
Sheridan is a reliable director of solid, sub-masterpiece films including My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, and especially In America. I reviewed the first two recently.
Yes, and nobody understands the plight of a black American inner-city thug trying to make good in the rap world like a white Irish guy... :-P
I'd love to think the new Wenders will be worthwhile too... but the man hasn't directed a decent film in at least ten years. Couple that with the foul response at Cannes, and methinks it's another whiff for a once-great director.
And "A Sound of Thunder"? It stars Edward Burns, it's been delayed too many times to count, it's being buried in early September and it's directed by Peter "Light? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Light!" Hyams. What's to look forward to?
Also, having seen the trailer (twice), I can assure you that "Cry_Wolf" is going to be utter crap.
Hmm. I guess I've only seen the best of Wim Wenders. I didn't hear about the response at Cannes, and its IMDB ratings keeps slipping lower. I guess I'll bump it down a notch.
A Sound of Thunder also stars Ben Kingsley, one of my favorite actors, and has an excellent premise, in my opinion. I'm actually not sure who Edward Burns is (I don't think I've seen him in any films), but I didn't realize the director was that bad. I'll keep it at the top, but only because I'm an optimist.
I watched the Cry Wolf trailer for the first time, and yeah, that does look pretty bad. Down it goes.

The triumphant return of the World's Phoniest Bat, that's what.
Wow, comeback for tWPB? Maybe I have to see it after all...
I remember seeing a quick shot of him when I first saw the trailer... but, of course, that was several months before its first release date, however long ago that was. He was looking pretty good -- buff, healthy, a new look, but still very very Phony. Hopefully he didn't end up on the cutting room floor, but that'd be par for the course for T.W.
We'll always have "The Devil Bat"...
(Besides, didn't he turn up in a Danzig video or something?)
Did he? Would not be surprised. You never know where that guy's gonna turn up.
(AJ is probably goin', "the hell...?")
Yeah, that sums it up pretty well. :-)
Yeesh - low, low ratings for Elizabethtown.
Ha, gonna see Don't Come Knocking tomorrow. Can't wait!
Be sure to see Volver! I didn't like Hable Con Ella, and fell asleep to Todo sobre mi madre, but this one is really outstanding.
