THANKS TO ALL OF YOU! EXCELLENT WORK!

1 who's afraid of virginia woolf ?

8 cat on a hot tin roof

26 Alien
is 13 Invasion of the body snatchers?

36 A clockwork orange
is 35 Tootsie ?

These I'm sure of so I'll stick to them

Everything was correct, except #13 (or rather #12).

9. The Graduate (i love that Tagline)

"In search of wine. In search of women. In search of themselves." = Sideways ?

Be afraid. Be very afraid. = The Fly

Correct.

7) Mystic River
17) Giant
31) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
36) A Clockwork Orange
39) Jurassic Park

Great.
Only #36 was already guessed by cramoukji.

41. Vertigo
48. Easy Rider

Claro.

also
6.Airplane!
41.Vertigo

I think number three is that recent movie with Haley Joel Osment, Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt I don't remember what it was called
Number four is Mel Brooks' Dracula starring Leslie Nielsen, isn't it ?
11 could be Payback with Mel Gibson
I think I know number 12...
13 is the movie with Sean Connery and Matthew Broderick about three generations of criminals uniting for one big bank heist I don't know the title either
Is 12 the sci-fi comedy with David Duchovny, Evolution?

#3: No, the tagline is from a well-known film (I think we all know this film).
#4: Hmmm, could have been Brooks' version, but it isn't.
#11: No, that's not Payback.
Hint: #4 + #11: same director!!!
#12: So do I. :) It's not Evolution.
#13: Family Business? That's it!

It's Polanski's Bal des Vampires, I don't know the english/american title
and so 11 would be Frantic

That's right. (English title: The Fearless Vampire Killers)

I think 42 is Amateur.

Yes, that's it.

2. Murder by Death
38. Bowling for Columbine
44. A Fish Called Wanda
50. Doctor Zhivago

SORRY, but I had overseen your post till P Pogo made me aware of it.
P.S.: cramoukji beat you for Bowling for Columbine (yes, yes... 4 minutes).

Wow, I can't believe Murder by Death was right. That was a complete guess.

Oh, really? Then you guessed very well. :)

38 Bowling for Columbine ?
15 The Blue Lagoon ?
"Ha made their lives extraordinary" Mr Holland's Opus ?
The more I think about number twelve the more I get frustrated... isn't it a stupid Macaulay Culkin movie ?
"Hope can set you free" Shawshank redemption ?

#38, #33 and #18 (below) are correct.
#29 is another film, much more famous (the same for #15).
#12: No, fortunately (!) it is not a movie with Macaulay Culkin.
Thanks for your interest!

18 could be Papillon

Final batch for today... I hope memory serves me
3 could be Schindler's List
number 12 I finally got cos I knew it had to deal with Aliens
and "He made their lives extraordinary" is Dead Poets Society
12 is war of the Worlds
now I got me a headache thank you for the brain-busting fun

Fantastic! Finally you got #12!
Thanks once more for your contribution. Sorry for the headache. :)

Isn't #10 "Sleuth"?

Indeed.

22. Taxi Driver
44.A Fish Called Wanda
45. StageCoach

All right.

A Fish Called Wanda goes to dgeiser!

5. Schindler's List
47. Annie Hall

I'm going on guesses here.

I see that #3 is Schindler's List...so I'll say Hotel Rwanda.

Surely that's correct. Oh, I'm not calling you Shirley... :-)

32. Midnight Cowboy

Yup.

40. The Chronicles of Riddick

Very interesting..."All the power in the universe can't change destiny". Actually that's the tagline of The Chronicles of Riddick.
The solution is probably less obvious. :)

15 is East of Eden
Love story in the city of dreams is Mulholland Drive and I'd like to point out that it's a lousy tagline for such a wicked movie

Yes, I also think that the weak/banal tagline doesn't fit very well together with this unforgettable movie.

I think that this strong/brilliant tagline does fit perfectly together with this forgettable movie:

The skill of gymnastics, the kill of karate Gymkata

Yakmalla, y'all!

0dysseus

True, true...

As dgeiser said,
2 is Murder by Death

Also,
16 Gone with the Wind
24 Blue Velvet
25 The Ice Storm
43 Dune

Thanks so much for making me aware of dgeiser's post. I had really overseen it.
Your solutions are right!

23. Blade Runner

Sure.

I know 14... i just can't think of it.

I am ABSOLUTELY sure you know it.

well... that put me over the top, i can't believe i didn't see it... Once Upon A Time In The West... now i feel silly.

Na...better late than never. :)

Is 34 Armageddon or Deep Impact or still another movie ? I'd say Armageddon

Isn't 19 an old movie considered by many as an important turning point in the history of early american cinema but is really much more a sickeningly racist silent movie about the Civil War ? Namely, DW Griffith's Birth of a nation ? If it is, I refuse to be awarded this point as I won't accept being linked to such a disgusting piece of white suprematist propaganda shame shame

#34 is definetly one of those recent disaster films, but it is not Armageddon nor Deep Impact.
#19: Yup, that is The Birth of a Nation. So, you don't want a point for that?
Your view about this film is definetly correct, but was this racist message really Griffith's intention? I can hardly imagine that. However the film is surely one of the most important ones in film history...

Is 34 The Day After ?

No.

46.Psycho

Yes.

Independence day, by any chance ?

That's it.

numbers 20 and 21 look sad not having been answered... I know 20 but it's a "chick flick" so I won't answer LOL but seriously, 21 sounds familiar... it's got to be a movie about not being in love... or the dangers of love... or lust... but at the same time it looks like a comedy tagline hhmmmm... am I on the right track of thought ?

#20: This depends always on how you'd define "chick flick". Honestly I liked the film...
#21: It IS about the dangers of love and yes, the film is a comedy (with a lot of black humour)!

a chick flick would be a movie primarily targeted at the female audience... when used by me it is NOT a judgement on the quality of the movie... I love lots of chick flicks like Animal Husbandry (Someone Like You) for example... hmmm, 21 could be The War of the Roses then... but well, I didn't really enjoy number 20 though Susie is once again at the top of her game (did I mention I was a Rocky Horror addict ?)
Hey, have you voted in my shallow poll about lovely tv actresses ?

Hmmm... I see. Well, I guess #20 is then quite probably such a film.
#21 is in fact The War of the Roses.
Poll: Now I have. :)

#20 is Thelma And Louise
#40 is The Godfather part III

it was a bit easier to find T&L with all the clues I gave, wasn't it ?

I'll give 0.5 points for that, OK?

Woo-hoo, and two other of world's mysteries have been resolved. Excellent.

Could Number 31 simply be "Being There" ?

...and the title is even mentioned in the tagline...
finally, someone has found

Great guess, cramoukji!

His Hangups Are Hilarious = Harold And Maude

Brilliant!!! Now we have got them all! Last point for you, Rushmore.

it's funny because for ages i thought the answer was "the Big Lebowski" but i looked and saw it wasn't then i was lost..untill it hit me. :-0
